Every day of the residency, I documented my own routine of connecting to the internet through the VPN service I depend on. I recorded the VPN’s logs and connection activity, then transcribed these digital traces onto paper using my non-dominant hand for one hour. The piece translates an automated, near-instant technological process into a slow, repetitive, and physically awkward bodily act. The work reflects how, after living through prolonged disconnection, even partial and unequal access stops feeling neutral. Access becomes something that has to be maintained, cared for, and protected. Each session was filmed from two angles: an overhead view of the writing, and a more distant camera observing me at work. The recordings were uploaded to YouTube every day — a platform that I cannot normally access without additional technical work. The process of archiving and making the work visible therefore became part of the work itself.
